There are many many things to explore wile inside Dering  Harbor.  If you have a good reliable dinghy, you should be in for a real treat.

Gardiner's Creek:  Gardiner's Creek is located in the south-east corner of the harbor.  To get to the creek you will need to go under a bridge.  The creek is quite peaceful and offers plenty of wildlife.  At the entrance of the creek there is also an osprey's nest.  The entrance of the creek is also a popular fishing spot.

Dering Harbor is a short walk from the Shelter Island Country Club (or what we call "Goat Hill").  "Goat Hill" is open to the public and a fun course to play.  You can call the Country Club at (631) 749-0416.  

Dering Harbor is located in the heart of Shelter Island's shopping district.  The town is full of shops, book stores, galleries and more.  See our general guide for a list of stores and galleries.

Unfortunately there are no movie theatres on Shelter Island, but if you are looking to rent a video or DVD you can walk to Olinkiewicz Video.  Olinkiewicz video is a short walk from the marinas next door to Stars Market Cafe.  The nearest movie theatre is located in Greenport, see our guide for details.
