Cartwright Island is located at the southern
tip of Gardiner's Island. The island is
located f approximately 1.5 miles south of Gardiners Island and
1.3 miles east of Acabonack
Harbor.
The island is a barren sandbar inhabited only
seagulls and some other small wildlife.
There are no marinas, marine services,
restaurants or any buildings on the island at
all. The island is owned and run by the
Gardiners and does not accept any trespassers.
The island is also surrounded with posted signs that
inform you that this is private
land.
Some boats attempt to anchor for the day
along the western side of the island. On
the west side of Cartwright island there is approximately
8-12 feet of water. The area is not well
protected from southwesterly winds, but on a
calm day makes for a beautiful anchorage.
